2002年12月11日 · You'll need quite few bolts with your detail to transfer the joist load into the wall from the ledger and to secure the wall above to the masonry. I've used the detail your considering when the grade comes up close to the floor line in order to keep the wood away from the soil. Consider using 3/4" diameter anchor bolts and a double sill plate.

I have been limiting the capacity of a 1/2" diameter bolt to 315#, based on the bearing capacity of the 1" diameter washer (minus 9/16" diameter hole) against S-P-F wood. However, I think this is too conservative.

The projects I have done, I always show a 12" embedded cast in place bolt, however, the contractors always refuse to use cast in place bolts, they want to use Simpson Titen HD bolts

2003年10月1日 · I would suggest using the 1997 NDS (2001 NDS is out there too). It has tabulated values for wood members attached to concrete and based on the failure mode (III or IV) the duration factor is probably 1.6 (see UBS table 2.3.2) for sill anchor bolts.

When it comes to residential, would you consider using Hilti anchors for anchoring the column baseplates to the supporting footing pads or are the traditional anchor bolts better for that? 2009年4月7日 · 1/2" anchor bolts as sill plates is probably a 100 year old concept. I think this is a case where the NDS doesn't conform to typical details rather than the other way around. I am not a fan of anchor bolts for sill plates for a number of reasons, but I don't think it's a dangerous option. If you are concerned, use Simpson MASA straps.

2006年2月8日 · Anyone knows why the code is asking for 5/8" dia. anchor bolts for seismic zone 4? Does it mean I cannot use anything smaller than 5/8" dia for zone 4 even it calcs. out? Also, why shearwalls over 640plf require a 3x p.t. sill plate? Why 3x sill plate is not required when the shearwall is not sitting on the foundation directly?
