Model 1897 Shotguns. The Model 1897 was a superior slide-action exposed hammer shotgun that was specifically designed for the new smokeless powder. Winchester manufactured just shy of one million Model 1897 shotguns, with the production taking place from July 1897 to September 1957. The Model 1897 was an improved redesign of the older Model 1893.

2020年11月16日 · See my email reply… unfortunately, your Model 1897 is not an authentic WW I Trench Gun. The markings on the butt stock are highly likely to be fake & added when somebody altered the gun to its current configuration.

The French invented smokeless powder in about 1884. And like Bert said, all Models, except the 66 were eventually chambered with smokeless. Chuck on Black powder only Winchesters. You have a "Ideal Straightline 12Ga Re-Decapper". Depending on the year it was produced it may also be referred to by the "Lyman Ideal" brand name.
