Help, Grizzly or Precision Matthews bench top mill?
For the same price, you could get the Griz ($1490), powerfeed (+$345), a 4 inch milling vise (Shars, +$250), and still be left with a little over $300 for tooling and whatnot, or to put towards a DRO setup. So, my personal opinion, the PM may be the better machine, but not better enough to justify the price over the Grizzly.

I dont think all similar looking Chinese machine tools are made in the same factories, maybe the castings come from the one foundry and the heavy machining might be done in one shop too but I strongly suspect the worst or of the worst are the products of small shops assembling from kits of parts sourced from the rejects of the bigger shops.

Previous posters have also pointed out the extremely poor quality of Chinese electrical components. Use the machine but as soon as one has an electrical failure, replace the component with a well made item. I have two machine tools (a power hacksaw and a 9' planner) that are 100+ years old. The planner needs some TLC which I knew when I bought it.

I am looking seriously at purchasing a decent milling vise for my Grizzly mill. It is a square column model (G0484). The table measures 32.25" x 9.375". It has a maximum of 15.5" spindle to the table and 10.25" spindle to column. I think those are the important dimensions for my question.
