Both brands are overpriced, and generally target shoppers at brick and mortar stores, where looks and gimmicks are more important to the end user than quality.

Spyderco brings higher-end steels to affordable price ranges. Civivi, Kizer (Vangard), and Stedemon make very nice knives with mid-range steels and good prices.

I've also noticed they have chisel grind blades, which many of their customers don't much care for. Emerson Knives makes many if not all of their current blades chisel ground.

Not too long ago, knives made in Taiwan did not have a reputation for quality. Now companies like CRKT, Outdoor Edge, Timberline and Gerber are having good quality knives made for them in Taiwan.

You can't compare the Buck Strider to the CRKT M1, nor can you compare the CRKT M-16 to the Buck 110. On a side note, I am of the opinion that Kershaws are good only for cutting coupons and ribbon.
