Character Profile Templates on Toyhouse
Pick the top layout for a dark background, and the bottom layout for a light one. Both allow large and tiling images automagically, it's just differences in default text colors. Instructions are in the blurb, and you get both white text with a black shadow, and black text with a white shadow. Polished it up a little.
