2011年3月9日 — I run cobalt drill bits with a 135-degree tip, up to 1/2" diameter, in my drill press through 1/4" and 3/8" mild steel plate pretty routinely without troubles. No pilot hole, but I do use a center punch and a couple of drops of cutting oil with medium speed and normal pressure.

1999年4月17日 — Jan 6, 2002. #2. Carbide bits can be used to drill already hardened steel. But they are brittle and tend to break if you're not real careful. Cobalt bits are the greatest for drilling annealed ready to work steel. They will outlast high speed steel bits four to one so they are worth the little bit extra they cost. Hope this helps.

2024年4月14日 — Only bits I have found that really work are the Relton Groo-V bits. Rotary or hammerdrill both work well with the same bit. They go through everything I have thrown at them when doing shower doors like butter. You can hear them grind through. I usually only use 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 inch for what I do.

2013年12月15日 — The issue is that they're the most wear resistant steels on the market and they're all harder than most steel normally is. Most guidance on carbide drilling I can find only reference hardened steel at something like 50 RC. A lot of these guys are shocked that people work with steels at 60 RC.
